Jiangsu reports tourism upsurge during Dragon Boat Festival

East China’s Jiangsu province reported an upsurge in tourism during the annual Dragon Boat Festival holiday that lasts from Thursday to Saturday. Let’s take a close look.

Saturday is the last day of the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, and the Confucius Temple Scenic Area in Nanjing provided visitors with a rich array of cultural and tourism activities to make them infused in festive atmosphere.

“In ancient times, women and children used to place realgar on their eyebrows or hands, symbolizing the ability to avoid five types of poisonous insects”, Zheng Qizhi, Nanjing Confucius Temple Qinhuai Scenic Belt Tourist Center, said.

“It can help us understand more about the culture of Dragon Boat Festival. As a Chinese, I think it would be great to learn more about traditional Chinese culture”, a tourist from Shandong said.

During the Dragon Boat Festival, many scenic spots in Jiangsu integrated colorful folk customs with novel cultural and tourism projects, so that tourists can experience the excellent traditional Chinese culture during their travels.

The custom of weaving and hanging egg bags has lasted for over two thousand years. Volunteers in Jurong taught tourists how to weave egg bags while introducing the cultural origins of Dragon Boat Festival. They also engaged participants in learning and enjoying the activities of "wearing Han ethnic clothing and celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival".

Unearthed Cultural Relics Exhibition of Sujiayuan Site, a special exhibition of Dragon Boat Festival on display in Suzhou Museum, attracted many tourists. The exhibition presents 102 precious cultural relics, depicting the inheritance of the Xirong ethnic group, represented by Majiayuan, to the northwest indigenous culture.

“Museums are a local cultural feature, and we are very interested in many ancient exhibits”, a tourist from Beijing said.

Tour guides in the China Grain Water Transport Museum in Huai"an briefed the tourists on the origin and development of the Dragon Boat Festival. In the meantime, they used modern exhibition technologies such as sound, light and electricity to immerse the tourists in the unique charm of China"s water culture.

Museums in Lianyungang and some other places launched a handmade sachet activity, where children, under the guidance of the museum staff, carefully ground Chinese herbs and experienced the preparation of sachets.
