East China’s Jiangsu province invested 7.216 billion yuan in key water conservancy projects from January to April, demonstrating the fundamental supporting role of water conservancy in economic and social development.
The flood detention area around Hongze Lake will restore 8.55 square kilometers of water surface and increase the storage capacity by 11.6 million cubic meters. This project is one of the 172 major water conservation and water supply projects funded by the State Council.
As of the end of April, 333 million yuan has been invested in the recent construction of the flood detention area around Hongze Lake.
“Two sections will be completed by the end of this year, and the other two sections are expected to be completed next year. The project can further improve the water conservancy infrastructure around the lake, improve flood control capacity, form a dense road network around the lake, and build a strong flood control and security barrier”, Zu Dong, Director of Linhuai Water Conservancy Station in Sihong County, said.
Xiangshui County has recently accelerated the construction of sea embankment reinforcement projects. Xiangshui County has a coastline of 43 kilometers, and the original seawall protection project has been significantly reduced due to year-round seawater erosion.
The local government has decided to invest more than 400 million yuan in the reinforcement project, which starts from Sanwei Port in the north and extends to Zhongshan River mouth in the south over 7 kilometers, to ensure that the seawall project can withstand the flood once in 50 years.
Since the beginning of this year, water conservancy departments at all levels in Jiangsu have innovated their work mechanisms, coordinated and solved the problems encountered in the progress of work so as to ensure the safety and construction quality of water conservancy projects during the flood season. Jiangsu invested 7.216 billion yuan in key water conservancy projects, up 56 percentage points from last year, accounting for 40.1% of the annual construction task.
