33 cities in east China’s Jiangsu province such as Nanjing and Jiangyin will be the first pilot cities to open more than 1000 hectares of shared urban parks and green space, according to the Implementation Plan for the Pilot Work of Urban Park and Green Space Opening and Sharing issued recently by the Provincial Department of Housing and Urban Rural Development.
The pocket park on the south side of Guangming New Village in Nantong City is complete with small bridges, flowing water, green trees, various sports and fitness facilities, attracting an endless stream of local residents to come here for exercise and leisure.
This plot of land was originally a wasteland with overgrown weeds. Through urban renewal and environmental remediation of old residential areas, Nantong has built many of these wastelands into Pocket park and urban greenways with sports facilities and leisure stations so as to have enabled more and more resident to have high-quality green spaces for leisure, fitness, and socializing without traveling afar.
The Provincial Department of Housing and Urban Rural Development recently issued the Implementation Plan for the Pilot Work of Urban Park and Green Space Opening and Sharing to ensure that 33 cities will open more than 1000 hectares of shared urban parks and green space and all the counties or county-level cities will open green space and urban parks by the end of 2025.
For green spaces that have been opened and planned to be opened and shared, Jiangsu will encourage the establishment of service carriers such as rest stations and urban study rooms to meet the needs of people"s activities such as tent building, sports and fitness, and night markets so as to activate spatial vitality, and enable people to better enjoy high-quality life in the city’s high-quality development.
