East China’s Jiangsu province has recently introduced a package of policies to promote the construction of the basic elderly care system and the development of elderly care undertakings and industries, according to a press conference held by the provincial government on Wednesday.
The "Several Measures to Promote the Construction of the Basic Elderly Care Service System" includes 18 detailed rules in 6 aspects. Jiangsu will improve the "Guiding Catalogue List of Basic Elderly Care Services", and by the end of the 14th Five Year Plan, the province will ensure the inclusive coverage of the evaluation on needy elders aged 80 and above.
Jiangsu will provide elderly care services and nursing subsidies for economically disadvantaged elderly and disabled individuals. At the same time, it will promote the extension of institutional professional services to communities and families.
“We have requested all parts of the province to adjust and improve the list of basic elderly care services in their respective regions, ensuring that elderly people have convenient, accessible, and moderately equal access to basic elderly care services. Jiangsu will provide classified and precise services for the elderly with special difficulties, disability and dementia, as well as the general elderly population”, Sha Weiwei, First Level Inspector of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Civil Affairs, said.
Jiangsu has also issued the "Implementation Opinions on Promoting the Development of Elderly Care and Industry to Improve the Quality of Elderly Care Services", aiming to guide and support social forces to participate in the construction of basic elderly care service systems, steadily promote the reform of public elderly care institutions, promote the coordinated development of urban and rural elderly care services, and encourage high-quality elderly care service enterprises to expand socialized elderly care services in the rural areas.
