East China’s Jiangsu province recorded a sustained growth in the automotive industry from January to May from the rapid increase in the production and sales of new energy vehicles, according to statistics released by the Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology on Monday.
From January to May, Jiangsu recorded a vehicle production of 645,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 25.3%, which is 14.2 percentage points higher than the national average. The province recorded an output of 329,000 new energy vehicles, up 88.9% year on year, 43.2 percentage points higher than that of the national total.
New energy vehicles account for 51% of the province’s automobile production. In May alone, Jiangsu recorded a new energy vehicle production of 73,400 units, a year-on-year increase of 57.1%, indicating a significant acceleration in development.
In the first five months of this year, Jiangsu recorded 230,000 new energy vehicle registrations and continued to maintain a high-speed growth trend. The total number of new energy vehicles in the province has reached 1.23 million.
Various regions in Jiangsu are continuously increasing the construction of related infrastructure in order to further create conditions for the promotion and application of new energy vehicles. As of the end of May, Jiangsu has built 630,000 various types of car charging facilities and 140,000 public charging facilities, ranking second in the country, gradually forming a 3-kilometer charging service circle in the urban areas.
