The African Medical Talents Jiangsu Training Workshop under the 2023 China Africa Pairing-up Assistance Hospital Cooperation Mechanism was launched Wednesday at Jiangsu Province Hospital. The event was hosted by the Jiangsu Provincial Health Commission and the Foreign Affairs Office of the Jiangsu Provincial People"s Government.

16 doctors from Kinvunge District Hospital and ChakeChake Hospital in Zanzibar and Ain Shames University Specialized Hospital in El-Obour city of Egypt are undergoing the 10-day training, with some participants extending their study up to 90 days.

The training workshop, taught by an experienced medical team from Jiangsu Province Hospital, will focus on emergency treatment and super minimally invasive techniques of digestive endoscopy. Some trainees need to learn for 60 to 90 days.

“I hope to come to China to learn more about emergency procedures. In our country, there is a shortage of equipment. After obtaining equipment support, we all know the basic operations, but if we want to do better, we need to learn more”, said a doctor of Kinvunge District Hospital in Zanzibar.

“I am engaged in research on digestive endoscopy and tumors, and I want to gain knowledge and experience in these areas”, Hussam Salem, a professor from Ain Shames University Hospital, Egypt, said.

Jiangsu has a long history of medical cooperation with African countries. Jiangsu has sent more than 30 batches of medical teams to Zanzibar so far since it sent the first batch of medical teams in 1964. In recent years, Jiangsu Province Hospital has established corresponding cooperation relationships and carried out all-round cooperation with Kinvunge District Hospital and ChakeChake Hospital in Zanzibar and Ain Shames University Specialized Hospital in El-Obour city of Egypt.

“I think the progress in medical technology in China is evident internationally. We share our medical technology for the health of the people, and health knows no borders. Our medical personnel have this kind of sentiment, ability, and level to do this work well”, said Ding Qiang, Secretary of the Party Committee of Jiangsu Province Hospital.
