Nanjing and Xuzhou have started to implement a medical service policy that will enable the residents in both cities to seek dual medical service without filing an application for their medical insurance to be placed on record so as to facilitate the direct reimbursement of medical expenses.
By canceling the application to keep their medical insurance in the record of the targeted cities, the government intends to facilitate the direct reimbursement of medical expenses for medical treatment outside of the patients" home city.
Aunt Li, a recently retired citizen of Xuzhou, has a daughter who works in Nanjing. Recently, she lives at her daughter"s house in Nanjing to take care of her grandchildren.
Aunt Li has suffered a knee meniscus injury, and the recent continuous rainy weather in Nanjing has made her feel pain again. She originally thought that hospitalization at a hospital in Nanjing required early registration to place her Xuzhou-based medical insurance on record in Nanjing.
Unexpectedly, the registration process for seeking medical treatment in a place other than the patient"s home city has been canceled. She can use Xuzhou"s medical insurance card for direct settlement when seeing a doctor in a hospital in Nanjing, which is very convenient.
Citizens of Nanjing and Xuzhou can use their medical insurance cards to settle medical expenses in places other than their hometowns without applying for their medical insurance to be placed on record with the medical insurance office of the city of destination.
According to statistics from the National Medical Insurance Bureau, currently, 68,800 hospitals across the country provide cross-provincial direct settlement of hospitalization expenses, a 7-fold increase from 2017. The cross-provincial direct settlement rate of hospitalization expenses has increased from less than 5% in 2017 to about 65% in 2022, benefiting 20.3876 million people.
In addition to the "two-way exemption from filing" that is gradually being promoted, insured residents can also use the "commitment system" for filing their medical insurance records, simplifying the process to seek medical services in places other than their hometowns.
