East China"s Jiangsu province reported sustained recovery in the consumer market from January to May, which has played an important role in stabilizing economic growth.

The latest data shows that from January to May, Jiangsu recorded 1.89 trillion yuan in total retail sales of consumer goods, an increase of 11.4% year-on-year, accounting for 10.1% of the national total and ranking second in the country. In May alone, Jiangsu recorded 372.38 billion yuan in total retail sales of consumer goods, a year-on-year increase of 12.3%, indicating more evident acceleration of consumption recovery momentum.

Nanjing has launched a series of promotional activities with significant results, promoting collaboration among major demonstration shopping areas and large commercial centers, and connecting domestic and international markets,

"We promoted selected goods for overseas sales in shopping centers to help fuel consumption promotion activities," Wang Jie, Chief of Foreign Trade Section of Qinhuai District Bureau of Commerce, Nanjing, said.

Since the beginning of this year, Jiangsu has carried out more than 1400 consumption promotion activities, and issued 120 million yuan of voucher and 35 million yuan of e-renminbi red envelopes. Thirteen prefecture-level cities have held "one city, one theme" activities with distinctive themes.

Jiangsu has also focused on automobiles, home appliances, home furnishings, and catering by supporting automobile associations, home appliance associations, and catering associations in organizing industry specific consumption promotion activities. The Home Appliance and Decoration Carnival distributed billions of subsidies to consumers by providing full scene home appliance and decoration product discounts and promotions.

Jiangsu also recorded sales of 127,000 new energy passenger vehicles in the first quarter, a year-on-year increase of 33.7%.

"I think new energy vehicles are more suitable for small families because of their low emissions. The new policy strongly supports and recommends new energy vehicles and provides preferential policies for electricity use that"s why I am here with my families", a consumer in Wuxi said.

"Our 23 customers snapped up vouchers worth 1.5 million yuan. Customers attach great importance to vouchers, when purchasing new energy vehicles," Chen Xiao, Sales Manager of an Automotive Service Co., ltd in Wuxi, said.
