East China’s Jiangsu province has made smooth progress in the poverty alleviation paired-up assistance with Tibet by injecting more than 80% of the capital into the livelihood projects at the grassroots level. Let’s take a close look.
Xieyong Village, a modern new village with unique ethnic customs, is located in the mountains on the bank of Lhasa River. 56-year-old Basang Tsom is organizing her products in the small shop at home. When it comes to her beautiful life now, Basang Tsom"s face is filled with a happy smile.

“Now there have been earth shattering changes both inside and outside the house, all of which come from the concern of the party and government, as well as the help of Jiangsu"s aid to Tibet. I am currently running a small shop at home to subsidize my family. My son and daughter both work in Lhasa so that we live a happy life without any burden”,Basang Tsom, Villager of Xieyong Village, Qüxü County, Basangsom, said.
In the past, Xieyong Village was filled with dust everywhere, and some villagers still had mixed housing with humans and animals. In order to improve the living environment, Jiangsu has invested nearly 100 million yuan in two batches to complete the "Beautiful Countryside and Happy Homeland" ecological livable construction project in Xieyong Village by innovatively adopting a centralized use of aid funds.
“When we were renovating this village, we first renovated the basic environment, including the village"s roads, and the people"s courtyards. We also focus on enhancing the sustainable development capacity of villages. So during the construction, cultural and tourism projects were included to ensure a long-term income for the village’s collective economy”,Wu Bin, Deputy Leader of Taizhou Assistance Working Group in Tibet, Deputy County Chief and member of the Standing Committee of CPC Qüxü County Committee, said.
The "Beautiful Countryside and Happy Homeland" ecological livable construction project has been launched in 43 villages or settlements.
In the meantime, local authorities are making every effort to improve livelihood projects to benefit the people.
In Maizhokunggar County, more than 100 bridges have connected 56000 farmers and herdsmen to cities and towns. In Lhünzhub County, a cement road connecting two administrative villages has become what people here call the "happy road",
Mima, Secretary of the Party Branch of Jigu Village, Maizhokunggar County
In the past, our bridges were built with stones and wood, and they would be washed down during the rainy season. I can"t remember how many times the bridge was washed down, and how many more times we repaired it. One repair took more than ten days, which was very time-consuming. The cement bridge now is very sturdy, load-bearing, and easy for vehicles to travel.
“When there was no such road in the past, it would be flooded in rainy days, and in winter, there would be strong winds and a lot of dust. It was quite inconvenient for villagers to walk. Now, our livestock, people, and cars are very convenient to travel back and forth, and our village"s specialties are also easily transported out. I am particularly grateful for Jiangsu"s assistance to Tibet”,Ge Sanglangjie, Secretary of the Party Committee of Kayou Village, Lhünzhub County, said.
